About Monika

Except for being one of the coolest (and friendliest) photographers we know, Monika's aesthetic and talent has given her well-deserved nominations on lists such as "Top 30 wedding photographer in Europe" and "Top 5 Best wedding photographers in Barcelona".

How do you define beauty in your work, and what elements do you consider essential to achieving it?

I’m really drawn to images that are clean and simple, but still strong and emotional. Light plays a huge role, of course, but I also pay a lot of attention to clean lines and uncluttered backgrounds.
There’s something powerful about visual clarity—it lets the emotion and story shine through without distractions.

What rituals or routines do you follow when starting a new project? Is there something that always sparks your creativity?

It really depends on the type of work. If I’m working for a brand, I usually start by collecting visual references—anything that sparks an idea or feels aligned with the vision. Sometimes inspiration comes from music, a film, or even something random like a piece of furniture.

With weddings, though, it’s much more organic. There’s rarely any structured planning. The vibe of the event, the energy of the couple, and what I feel in the moment guide me. It’s very instinctive and emotional—more about feeling than strategy.

Is there a specific piece you've created that feels like a perfect reflection of your aesthetic vision? What makes it so special to you?

That’s a tough one! But a recent shoot I did in Vienna really captures my aesthetic. The colors, the lines, the mood—it all came together in a way that felt very “me.” What made it special was how fluid the process was. Nothing was overly planned; we just flowed with what was in front of us. I love working that way—intuitively—but still creating something polished and intentional.

When editing photos, do you have a go-to soundtrack or playlist that sets the mood? How does music influence your creative flow?

I listen to a lot of different genres, but lately I’ve been into elegant electronic music. It helps me stay focused and keeps the pace of my work flowing. Music definitely influences how I feel while editing—and that always seeps into the final result, even if subconsciously.

What do you think makes a photograph timeless? Is there a common thread that you believe connects iconic images?

I think it’s less about a specific style and more about the image itself—what it makes you feel. I grew up in the ’80s and was very influenced by the fashion photography of that era. Black and white images with a strong, clear subject tend to stick with me. They make you pause and look a little longer.

To me, timeless images are clean, simple, and emotionally strong. I love unexpected moments or peculiar characters—but that’s personal, of course. In the end, everyone is drawn to different things. For me, that balance of simplicity and impact is everything.
